Illumina builds out C-suite with 2 new execs

  • Illumina has named two executives to lead its commercial and legal affairs teams.
  • Mike Sullivan will join Illumina as chief commercial officer on July 20 and Julie Coletti will join as chief legal officer starting Aug. 3, according to a Thursday announcement.
  • The appointments come as Illumina’s sales have stabilized following a period of slower demand for the gene sequencing firm’s tools and services. Illumina also spun out liquid biopsy firm Grail in 2024 amid scrutiny by regulators and pushback from activist investor Carl Icahn.

Sullivan will lead Illumina’s global commercial organization after the previous chief commercial officer, Everett Cunningham, became the head of testing firm Quanterix in January. 

Sullivan previously worked as chief commercial officer of cancer test maker Caris Life Sciences, where he led commercial operations across oncology diagnostics and precision medicine. Before that, Sullivan held leadership roles at Roche Diagnostics and Ortho Clinical Diagnostics.

Julie Coletti will become Illumina’s chief legal officer.

Coletti, Illumina’s incoming chief legal officer, will lead Illumina’s global legal, regulatory and government affairs teams.

Coletti spent the last eight years working for Align Technology, maker of the Invisalign product, most recently as chief legal and regulatory officer. Prior to her work with Align, Coletti was a global general counsel and chief compliance officer for Danaher and previously worked as a chief legal officer for Bayer HealthCare, according to her LinkedIn.
